Now I'm all for custom exhausts, nice sounds and whatnot. But I have to wonder what illegal substance the owner of this truck was on when they decided it would be a good idea to route the exhaust pipe through the tailgate. I can't wrap my head around this; how is it at all a good idea?

That's Dexter Morgan's car and what you see is blood drain pipe.

Just let them customize the shit out of cars. Bit by bit and someone will decide to put the end of exhaust pipe in the cabin. The circle will be closed.

Legitimate use: a truck whose tailgate is never used and that regularly Fords (hurr) rivers. With a properly sealed exhaust pipe-bed penetration and caulked tailgate, all goods will stay dry and the truck won't suck any water if it stalls.

Maybe.

Almost definitely no such thing.

I think it could be a cool experiment. If they're running it through the gate itself and the gate is still fully operable, I'm pretty impressed.

However, I'm guessing that the gate doesn't open anymore and there's an exhaust pipe running in the bad. That's not good.

I'd like to think it's because the bed is full of engine. Front and mid-engined, four wheel drive. Works for me.

You can't see it in the picture, but just underneath I noticed that they just cut the last 10'' or so off the original pipe and ducted it up through the bed. They didn't use that bendable pipe shit, it was solid. Obvs I couldn't see in the bed, but I'm guessing it came up through the bed floor to a 90 degree bend and straight through the tailgate.

Your idea is better than my idea, but possibly they could be combined, Wonder Twins style.

Form of a... Two Engined Amphibian!

I think Top Gear already had that idea.

I'm guessing a legal substance called Bud Light was consumed in great amounts before and during the modification.

Was it active or just cosmetic? He could have the real one tucked away behind the bumper and that tip mounted there just for the lulz.

Definitely active. You could see the deposits left by condensation drooling underneath the exit. Also, you can't tell from the picture, but I could see where they lopped off the original outlet pipe and welded new components on. It takes a steep 90 degree bend up through the bed floor, then (I assume) another 90 out the tailgate.

Some guys like having sooty black stains all over the paint on their tailgate. It may not be there now, but it will be.

because the best part of having a truck is making the bed unusable...
